CASEY AT THE BAT 1888
Ernest Thayer wrote the baseball poem Casey at the Bat. First published in The San Francisco Examiner in 1888, it was later popularized by DeWolf Hopper in many vaudeville performances. It was a great success. In 1927 the by then famous poem inspired a film starring Wallace Beery as the Mighty Casey. While there are many interpretations of Casey’s cap, our design mirrors the models on the popular and colorful Allen and Ginter’s Baseball Cards of 1887. 2 Black wool bands. Black Wool Foundation.
