WESTERN AIR EXRESS 1940
Western Air Express was the first airline to carry mail to the coast in 1925. It began passenger service that same year and would have been one of the great airlines in the U.S. had its dazzling rise not been hampered by the Postal Inspector General’s insistence tar it become the W in TWA. WAE merged and unmerged over the years – including a coin toss with Continental in which both sides insisted on “tails” and s such could not agree. In its heyday, the year of our cap, serious sandlot baseball games were played on the runways ad medians at Alhambra Field, Western’s long vanished aerodrome in LA only a mile or so from where our caps are sewn today. Brown Round Crown. 3” Visor. White Stitching on Red Felt Logo.
