CIVIL DEFENSE TEAM 1948
On March 27, 1948 New York ‘s Mayor, Fiorello La Guardia, was named as Director of the Civil Defense, although serving without compensation. To liven things up for his volunteers a baseball team was organized and a game played at Yankee Stadium which in 1941, the Yankees president Ed Barrow offered for use of as a bomb shelter in case of attack.
