KANSAN CITY MONARCHS 1942
The Monarchs were formed in 1920, from the All Nations barnstorming unit and the 25th Infantry Wreckers, an all-black team recruited into the army for their playing talent. They were the longest-running franchise in the history of the Negro Leagues. J.L. Wilkinson, the first Caucasian owner, was the first to use a portable lighting system to play games at night - five years before a major league team did. The Monarchs were the class of the League winning ten championships and sending more players to the majors than any other Negro League franchise. Satchel Paige who warmed up before pitching in a game by throwing across a gum wrapper made this cap famous. Navy Wool with Red Visor, Red and Navy Braid, Red on White Felt Logo.
