The Grays grew out of an early industrial team, the Blue Ribbons. In 1910 the team became the Murdock Grays and two years later Cumberland Posey moved the Grays to Homestead, a steel town adjacent to Pittsburgh where they played 38 consecutive seasons. By1940 they had supplemented steelworkers with the likes of Cool Papa Bell, Ray Brown, Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, and Cum Posey, and played half their home games in Washington, D.C., The Grays were a power house: nine consecutive Negro National League Championships and three Negro League World Series titles..
